THE REAL CAUSE OF VIOLENCE

For the most part I’ve tried to steer clear from political topics on this blog, but I felt compelled to write about this one, as it could have far-reaching ramifications for many.

Seems that recently someone has gotten to President Trump, he now wants new gun control legislation which includes “involuntary confinement of those deemed to be mentally ill.”

President Trump called mass shooters “mentally ill monsters” and advocated for the increased use of involuntary commitment “when necessary” during his Monday speech in response to two mass shootings over the weekend that left a total of 31 people dead. “We must reform our mental-health laws to better identify mentally disturbed individuals who may commit acts of violence,” Trump said, “and make sure those people, not only get treatment, but when necessary, involuntary confinement.”

The American Psychological Association also took issue with Trump’s comments, saying that blaming mass shootings on mental illness is “unfounded and stigmatizing.” The group went on to say a very small percentage of violence is committed by people diagnosed with or being treated for mental illnesses, adding: “The rates of mental illness are roughly the same around the world, yet other countries are not experiencing these traumatic events as often as we face them. [1]

When I heard his televised speech it sounded like he had been told exactly what to say, the words he used weren’t his own. But that’s not what bothers me most about his newly found conviction, it’s the part about “involuntary confinement of the mentally ill” which all of us should be VERY concerned about. At first glance it sounds reasonable until you ask who’s going to do the “deeming” and what criteria will they be using? How will they “deem” someone mentally ill and therefore unfit to protect himself in an increasing age of violence? How will the so called balanced folks determine who should be “involuntarily confined?” Confined where and for how long? Dear fellow American, do you realize how dangerous a law like this could be? How easily it could be extended to include ANYONE whom the powers that be feel is a threat? Somewhere down the road it could be Christians who will be “deemed” mentally ill because they believe in the Bible and a God whom the secular world has “deemed” a myth! Perhaps THIS law, if passed, could be the means by which the PTB will “involuntarily confine” Christians. I also question if the PTB aren’t using the mentally ill as a SCAPEGOAT for the mass shootings instead of considering DRUGS and other factors as likely culprits. Health care agencies express that a very small percentage of the mentally ill are violent

  • Most people with serious mental illness are never violent, and 95-97% of gun violence is NOT caused by a mental illness.
  • The Surgeon General’s Report on Mental Health concluded that the contribution of mental health conditions to violence in our society is very small. The greatest risk of violence is from individuals who have an untreated or undertreated substance use disorder either solely or in combination with a mental health condition. Successful treatment ameliorates the risk of violence.
  • A landmark 2009 study by Elbogen et al. published in the Archives of General Psychiatry found that mental illness alone is not an adequate basis for a prediction of dangerousness.
  • Given that only a tiny fraction of violent acts are perpetrated by persons with mental health conditions, efforts to bar such individuals from purchasing firearms or to increase preventive detention can have no meaningful impact on public safety. Such legislation wastes public resources, violates the civil liberties of the vast majority of people with mental illness who are not dangerous, powerfully reinforces the myth that links mental health conditions with violence, and further cements stigma in the public mind. [2]

It is a known fact that many people on drugs have committed violent crimes, so why isn’t someone talking about that? Could it be that Big Pharma would be up in arms if drugs were implicated as a large part of the problem? But facts are facts, aren’t they? Well, maybe not in the world of political correctness.

Want to talk about causes of violence in our society? Let’s start with the removal of God’s Ten Commandments from all public venues, the sixth commandment being a deterrent to violent crime, “Thou shalt not kill.”

Why would anyone take offense to that command, especially those who claim they want the killing to stop!

Let’s go to the source of our problems and quit trying to blame someone or something else for them. Gun ownership isn’t the cause of violence, nor is mental illness. The solution to gun violence isn’t more background checks, universal registration, confiscation, and especially not “involuntary confinement.” The solution to all violence is a “new heart” because violence begins in the heart of man –

Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Mar 7:21-23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within….

In fact, ALL of man’s problems start there. But God offers a way out, He will give a “new heart” to anyone who asks for one –

Eze 36:26-27 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

If you want violence to stop then start with your own heart, does it harbor hatred towards others? Do you get angry when someone crosses you or interferes with your plans? If you truly want an end to violence, pray to God for a “new heart,” one that’s free from hate, selfishness, pride, greed, and jealousy, so that you would never commit an act of violence against your fellow man.

As It Was In the Days of Lot & Noah

Luk 17:26  And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

Luk 17:27  They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

Luk 17:28  Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded

Luk 17:29  But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

Luk 17:30  Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Luk 17:31  In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

Luk 17:32  Remember Lot’s wife.

Luk 17:33  Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it

In both accounts, the day of destruction comes suddenly and unexpectedly upon sinners as they went about their daily business. Noah and Lot and their families were warned beforehand by angels to leave the cities they lived in so as to escape the coming judgement, but those who stayed behind were destroyed. In this article I will prove that as it was in the days of Lot and Noah, so it is now.

Gen 19:12  And the men (angels) said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

Gen 19:13  For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.

Gen 19:14  And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

Gen 19:15  And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.

Gen 19:16  And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

Gen 19:17  And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

Gen 19:18  And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: (Lot had doubts or just didn’t want to leave sinful Sodom?)

Gen 19:19  Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: (Unreasoning fear or little faith? After all, Lot had an angelic escort out of Sodom!)

Gen 19:20  Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

Gen 19:21  And he (the angel) said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.

Gen 19:22  Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou become thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar (insignificant, small, little, ignoble).

The Lord God allowed Lot and his family to escape to a nearby small city per Lot’s request. Sometimes He allows us to choose an alternative to His perfect will for us, but it’s never as good as there’s always some sort of drawback to it. The mountain in this passage represents the Mountain of God, the dwelling place of the Almighty! What could be a better place to flee to?

Zec 8:3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Mic 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. Mic 4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Could it be that Lot again chose the easier, albeit less godly path, just like when he chose to live in Sodom instead of Canaan? [Gen 13:8-12] Jesus said to His disciples, “Luk 9:23 Then Yeshua was saying to everyone, “If anyone wants to follow Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross every day, and follow Me. [Tree of Life Version] Christ hasn’t called us to an easy life! He’s called us to walk in His footsteps, to carry our own crosses (denying ourselves for the Kingdom’s sake), and to live holy, righteous lives by turning away from evil in all of its forms. Anything less is denying His right to live through and to rule over us; He purchased our souls with His own Blood, giving Him total rights over our lives – Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own bloodHow do we deny ourselves? Let’s say someone walks up to you and insults you, your natural inclination is to defend yourself or worse, to respond in kind. Denying yourself is to deny your natural inclinations (usually sinful) and to choose obedience to God’s Word in every situation. In the above situation, you could either keep quiet and “turn the other cheek,” or respond with God’s Word in a spirit of love and gentleness if you’re at that level of spiritual maturity – Mat 5:38 – 39 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. [1]

Responding like Jesus requires great humility of spirit and strength which only the Holy Spirit can give, and most of all perhaps, your willingness to follow Him. God always gives people a free choice to either follow Him or someone else, like yourself or the Devil. It’s not easy to ignore someone’s insults, it’s hard to “turn the other cheek,” but OBEDIENCE to God’s commands brings GREAT BLESSINGS to your life. Try it and see for yourself! But first PRAY to the Father for wisdom, guidance, and strength to do things His way, not your own way. God loves those kinds of prayers and He always answers them because they’re according to His will – 1Jn 5:14 – 15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

God Destroys Sodom –

Gen 19:23  The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

Gen 19:24  Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

Gen 19:25  And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

Gen 19:26  But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. (Result of her disobedience to God’s command to not look back. This may also apply to modern day Christians who stay in churches that have apostacized, or fallen away from following God.)

Gen 19:27  And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:

Gen 19:28  And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.

Gen 19:29  And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

Lot and his family were told to not look back or stop anywhere along their exit route, but just keep going until they got to a safe place away from the judgement. But, his wife was so in love with the world and her worldly possessions she “looked back” towards Sodom, probably regretting leaving behind what she and her husband had there. Turning into a pillar of salt was the consequence of her looking back. Those who love God above all else won’t regret leaving this world or its goods – Luk 14:33  So likewise, any one of you that does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple. What this passage is saying is that looking back at what God tells us to leave behind results in loss, possibly even of life itself.

Joh 12:25  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Mat 16:25  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Just as God sent angels to warn righteous Lot and Noah and their families to flee the ensuing judgement to a safe place, He will do the same for His faithful ones prior to His return. Will everyone heed the warnings? Unfortunately, some will hesitate as did Lot, doubting the urgency and necessity of leaving wicked cities. Unbelievers will mock those sounding the alarm just like they did “in the days of Lot and Noah.”

We tend to put warnings like these far off into the future, not realizing that the danger is here, now. Believers who are tethered to their churches and ministries, refusing to leave them despite the obvious apostasy in their midst, ignore the warnings about staying in them – Rev 18:4. That is not to say that they will lose their salvation if they stay, but disobedience can result in a loss of rewards [Luke 12:42 – 48, Jms 4:17, John 12:48], poor health and other kinds of afflictions – 1 Cor 11:27 – 31. It could potentially cost them their lives. In one New Testament account, two members of the Church were instantly struck dead for lying to the Holy Spirit and to the apostles! [Act 5:3-5]

In a vast number of churches, the voice of the Bride and the Bride Groom (Jesus Christ) are no longer heard – Rev 18:23. Because of great Apostasy Jesus and His Bride have left the churches who have abandoned Him! How have they abandoned Him you ask? By not obeying His instructions in the bible which were written to show men how to live right, and by allowing all manner of evil into the Church. You say that God would never leave unfaithful churches? Then consider this –

2Ch 15:2  And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

Heb 12:25  See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

Heb 12:26  Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

A great shaking is coming and has already begun. God has been shaking the earth and its inhabitants but not all have perceived it. Shaking in the financial, social, and religious spheres are happening everyday. Between 2017 and 2018 there was an avalanche of sex scandals which came out into the open, not just in the church, but among political figures and entertainers. For months that’s all one heard about in the news. Reports and court filings of sex crimes in that period were unprecedented in American history.

“As it was in the days of Lot…..”

Is it all just happenstance or is it being orchestrated by the Omnipotent God as part of His great shaking of the earth and its inhabitants? I believe it’s the latter and His great shaking isn’t over, there’s a whole lot more to come. We have more rioting and protests against governments in various parts of the world than ever before. We have politicians and haters of freedom pitting races against one another in hopes of starting a race war so that martial law will need to be enacted in order to keep the peace, at which point people lose their freedoms! In Hitler’s Germany all weapons were taken away from the people, which left them defenseless against anything the German government wanted to do. Every despotic government in history has deployed some form of martial law upon its citizenry, including gun confiscation which won’t quell the violence in men’s hearts.

Despite there being a ‘whole lot of shaking going on,’ most people seem bewildered, not perceiving that there’s a direct correlation between bible prophecy and what’s happening now. God has warned in His Word and by angelic messengers, that these things would come upon a disbelieving and ungodly world, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise and yet even many believers will be taken by surprise and caught off guard, although they shouldn’t be – Luke 21:34, Mk 13:35-37, 1 Pet 4:7, Rev 3:3. All these things which have occurred before, will occur again just before the second coming of Jesus Christ the Ha Maschiach (Messiah / Savior) of the world – “So shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man.”

Taking into account all of the above, it would seem that the days in which we’re living are just like the days of Lot and Noah!

None of the wicked will understand but the righteous do, and they are prepared for Christ’s second coming. Are you? Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation [Acts 4:12] so I implore you to turn away from sin and invite Him to be your Lord and Savior. Rom 10:9 For if you confess with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. [Tree of Life Version]

Not but that a man may lawfully defend himself, and endeavour to secure himself from injuries; and may appear to the civil magistrate for redress of grievances; but he is not to make use of private revenge. As if a man should pluck out one of his eyes, he must not in revenge pluck out one of his; or should he strike out one of his teeth, he must not use him in the same manner; but patiently bear the affront, or seek for satisfaction in another way. [John Gill’s Exposition of the Bible]

That is, rather than avenge thyself, be ready to suffer patiently a repetition of the same injury. But these exhortations belong to those principally who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Let such leave the judgment of their cause to Him for whose sake they suffer. The Jews always thought that every outrage should be resented; and thus the spirit of hatred and strife was fostered. [Adam Clarke’s Commentary]

The type of submissive meekness enjoined by Christ in these verses must appear very difficult to the people who have never tried it; but actually, this presents the most exciting and thrilling approach to life and its problems that can possibly be imagined. Those who have tried it unanimously affirm that it works. [Coffman’s Commentaries on the Bible]
