In the end times Jesus warned that that many would believe “a lie,” what was that lie? Could it be that the lie is “once saved always saved?” The way it works is that if you say a prayer inviting Jesus into your heart, no matter how you live after that, you’ll bypass God’s Judgment and go to heaven when you die. Could the ‘eternal security’ or ‘once saved always saved’ doctrine be the “lie” of which Jesus spoke?
I think it is, because there are more than 3 witnesses (scriptures) in the Bible which clearly state that if/when one forsakes (abandons) the Lord, He in turn will forsake that person. Here they are —
2Ch 15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
2Ch 24:20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper? because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
1Ch 28:9 And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
Deu 31:16 – 18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us? And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
Jdg 10:13 &14 Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will deliver you no more. Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
Jdg 2:11 – 14 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger. And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.
If those verses aren’t enough to convince you, consider that in the Garden of Eden when the Serpent was tempting Adam and Eve, what did he promise them?
He promised them that if they ate of the forbidden fruit, they would not only gain knowledge of good and evil, but that they would NOT die as Yehovah had warned them —-
Gen 3:1 – 5 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Now compare that passage with the following New Testament passage —
2Th 2:2 & 3 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:7 – 12 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
For the sake of those who don’t know who the Restrainer is, it’s Michael the Archangel. Right after Michael is ”taken out of the way” (stops holding back iniquity) that Wicked one will be revealed to the world. Also, notice that the “day of Christ” cannot be “at hand” (immanent!) UNTIL the Anti-Christ is revealed. Once the Anti-Christ is revealed to the world, THEN Christ’s coming is immanent, but not before.
What is the “strong delusion?” Feminine of G4108 (as abstraction); objectively fraudulence; subjectively a straying from orthodoxy or piety: – deceit, to deceive, delusion, error. [Strong’s] 2a1) error, wrong opinion relative to morals or religion; 2b) error which shows itself in action, a wrong mode of acting; 2c) error, that which leads into error, deceit or fraud [Thayer’s Greek Definitions]
The LIE then has something to do with deceit, fraud (fraudulent teaching perhaps?), wrong opinion re morals or religion, error — AND PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THIS DEFINITION —- and “straying from orthodoxy and piety.“
Dear reader, isn’t that exactly where the Church at large is today? Could you honestly say that it hasn’t STRAYED from orthodoxy and piety? Piety is the quality of being religious or reverent.
Orthodoxy is (from Greek ὀρθοδοξία orthodoxía “right opinion”) is adherence to correct or accepted creeds, especially in religion. In the Christian sense the term means “conforming to the Christian faith as represented in the creeds of the early church.” 
- Adhering to the accepted or traditional and established faith, especially in religion.
- Adhering to the Christian faith as expressed in the early Christian ecumenical creeds. 
Orthodoxy is the belief in the standards of accepted and true doctrines taught in the Bible. That which is orthodox agrees with Biblical teaching and the interpretation of the Christian Church. 
Over several decades I’ve seen the Church “stray” from the “reverence” of God and His Word, and from the sound doctrines of the faith, which have been taught and accepted for many centuries. What has brought this about is the “mystery of iniquity” which has been “at work” since the Fall of Mankind in the Garden of Eden. Just what is the “mystery of iniquity?” For those who haven’t studied the Bible, it is the “condition of being without law, because of being ignorant of it, or violating it; it is “contempt and violation of law, also wickedness.” [Thayer’s Greek Def.] From G459; illegality, that is, violation of law or (generally) wickedness: – iniquity, X transgress (-ion of) the law, unrighteousness. [Strong’s]
The Church has strayed from orthodoxy by adopting ‘new’ doctrines (beliefs) and practices unsupported by Scripture and not preaching against ‘sin’ anymore in their services. At the same time, churches show little to no ‘reverence’ for God as they thumb their noses at God’s precious Law – His Torah or teachings in both Old and New Testaments. I’ve seen congregants in many churches treat the holy things of God ‘lightly’ which shows irreverence towards them! Real believers show ‘respect’ for God, His true ministers, and for His Word (all of it!). True believers don’t treat the holy things of God lightly but “tremble” at His words and show respect for His Presence in and among them. Yahweh has left many churches because of their stubborn refusal to heed His commands and correction –
Pro 1:23 – 36 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Now, I will put it all together for you. The “lie” being told believers in these last days, is akin to the lie Satan told Eve in the Garden – that they can disobey God’s law and not die (eternally) as a result! Since the Fall, men are born having a natural bent towards “going their own way” falsely believing that they can live independently from God and not suffer negative consequences for it. Yahweh God makes it very clear throughout the bible, that disobedience to His commands carries penalties, even everlasting death. Men who don’t see this are blinded by their lust.
1Co 6:9 -10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
The following passage describes those who in the blindness of their lusts ARE DECEIVED into thinking that they SHALL HAVE PEACE despite “walking according to the “IMAGINATION OF THEIR HEARTS” —-
Deu 29:19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
Notice what the LORD says will happen to him who does this —
Deu 29:20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
Compare with Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Rom 1:24 – 27 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Notice in the first verse the word “lie” is pertaining to “changing the truth of God” or exchanging that truth for a lie — “changed, change, or changing” From G3326 and G236; to exchange: – change. Also, “to make different” [Strong’s] “truth” 1b) what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man, moral and religious truth [Thayer’s Def.]
Dear reader, isn’t that what many churches are doing today, changing and or exchanging God’s truth for men’s opinions, even adopting the doctrines of devils??
1Ti 4:1 & 2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
In case you were wondering, a conscience seared with a hot iron (or cauterized) is no longer sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s conviction or influence, and is therefore no longer able to distinguish between good and evil – opposite from what Satan promised Adam and Eve in the Garden!!
See what a LIAR Satan is? He promised Adam and Eve that if they partook of his forbidden knowledge they would know both good and evil like God did. That word “know” is “yada” which has a broad variety of applications, one of which is to be able to DISTINGUISH between one thing and another! [Brown-Driver-Briggs Heb. Def.’s] I suggest you look the term up for yourself and get used to doing that, so you can “rightly divide” (interpret) the Word of God.
Satan LIED big time to Adam and Eve when he tempted them in the Garden of Eden. Satan actually told them two lies, the first being that if they partook of the forbidden knowledge or fruit, they wouldn’t die. The second lie was that not only would they not die, but they would be like God, able to distinguish for themselves (without God’s input) what’s good from what’s evil – (Gen. 3:5).
But you see, when men stray from God’s instructions and persist in going their own way, they eventually become insensitive to God’s voice so they can no longer hear Him. Their consciences become “seared” (cauterized) or hardened so they cannot respond to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and are lost. This can even happen to a born again believer who “falls away” —
Luk 8:11 – 14 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
Heb 6:4 – 6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Far too many in the church today treat God and His Word “lightly” and in some cases, with disdain. They do this by “changing” or exchanging God’s words with lies, and by making themselves the ultimate authority on what’s right and what’s wrong. In essense ungodly men end up worshiping themselves (the creature) instead of the Creator – Rom 1:25.
Many have made or are making the fatal choice to “go their own way,” thus rejecting God’s instructions, commands, and laws. They’ve been deceived by their own lusts and by Satan into believing that they don’t need God or His law, that they can go it alone and be just fine.
Dear reader I strongly urge you to take stock of your life in light of God’s holy Word to see if your words and actions line up with its precepts or not. If not, the time to change that is now, not tomorrow, for tomorrow may be too late – Luk 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee….
Don’t be fooled by Satan, or blinded by your own lusts, the Day of the Lord’s wrath will come! Don’t wait until that day to repent of your rebellion against God’s law, for it will be too late then – Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. There comes a time when the opportunity for repentance runs out – Luk 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
False dependence on Church privileges –
“In the eyes of Him who “seeth not as man seeth,” who readeth the heart and weigheth actions in the balances of the sanctuary, the worker of iniquity is not only the man who disregards religion and commits open wickedness; but also he who, if he avoid certain sins, avoids them not because he fears God or is constrained by Christ’s love, and who, if motives were analyzed, would be found to have regard to the good opinion of the world, rather than to the will and the glory of Him who called him into being.”
“You must search your hearts. You must see whether God be first in your hearts; whether your great fear be the fear of offending Him—your great desire, the desire of pleasing Him; whether “old things have passed away,” and “new things”—new tendencies, new upon outward privileges. “The kingdom of God is within you.”
I do not depreciate the means of grace. The “workers of iniquity” may be those who delight in sermons and never miss a sacrament.” “There are multitudes who will go a long way towards heaven and then stop short. They will give up everything but one thing for Christ, and therefore are they near heaven; but they keep that one, and therefore must they be excluded at the last. Almost believers upon earth, they are almost guests at the marriage-supper above.”
“I would that this might warn you; that this might startle you. If there are any of you who are resting on outward duties and privileges, and have not given your hearts to the Lord, oh! do not shrink from self-examination; be not afraid to know the worst. The “Master of the house” hath not yet “risen up and shut to the door.” You may still secure for yourselves admission at the last.” (H. Melvill, B. D. ) [The Biblical Illustrator]
Sobering words, I know, but necessary in light of the times we’re living in. I pray you won’t ignore or treat lightly these warnings in God’s Word but will hear them and be saved from His wrath when He comes to judge the whole earth. Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. (The meaning here is, that, as Christians are clothed with the garments of righteousness, they should not lay them aside, so that their spiritual nakedness should be seen. – Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible) Heb 10:26&27 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
The “lie” spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 11, is that a person can keep on sinning after receiving knowledge of the truth (God’s Word) and still go to heaven – the eternal security, once saved always saved (false) doctrine! It’s akin to the “lie” Satan told Adam and Eve in the Garden, “You shall not die.” Don’t fall for it!
May the FEAR OF GOD return to the Church before the Day of His Wrath comes.
