Diversions, such as holidays for one (most of which aren’t based in truth to begin with), distract the Church from its calling, which is to bring in a great harvest of souls for God – Luk 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
The Devil never takes a holiday or vacation! He’s a restless being who ceaselessly roams up and down in the earth – Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…. Not that it’s wrong to take a vacation or have fun, but never at any time should the Church become complacent about its adversary! He loves catching God’s people off guard and strikes when they least expect an attack. This is why the Word tells us to be ‘sober’ – temperate, dispassionate, circumspect; and to be ‘vigilant’ – 1) to watch 2) metaphorically give strict attention to, be cautious, active 2a) to take heed lest through remission and indolence some destructive calamity suddenly overtake one [Thayer’s Greek Definitions]. Strong’s Concordance has it as, ‘keep awake, that is, watch, be watchful!’
Satan is no fool, he knows how to keep the Church occupied with a lot of nonsense and diversions of various sorts. While the enemy is taking over our cities, towns, and country, the Church acts as though it were powerless against him and thus, does nothing. What a contradiction of all that Christ said about His Church and commanded His Church to be and to do! Luk 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Read also Mark 16:15 – 18)
The Church should be watchful and vigilant so as to be ready to take action at any moment. The Church should always be on guard! Too often I’ve made the mistake of thinking that the war lie up ahead somewhere in the hopefully distant future when all the time it was right in front of me! I pray you won’t make the same mistake. Part of the problem is that church members are programmed to be PASSIVE instead of active. During services they sit quietly, rarely uttering even an Amen, contrary to scriptural injunction for members to share whatever the Lord reveals to them – 1Co 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Tradition has replaced the Holy Spirit in today’s churches. In place of fresh revelation from God coming through its members, the Church offers the stale bread of man’s philosophies and dead religious dogmas, rehashed a hundred times over. Most church services are strictly rehearsed beforehand, leaving no room for anything like the Holy Spirit to move or to speak! The leadership doesn’t allow its scripted program to be interrupted, not even by God! What’s the leadership afraid of that it so severely limits the unction of God’s own Spirit within its walls? Could it be afraid of loosing CONTROL over its congregations, of how matters will be conducted? But wait, isn’t that the Lord’s business? Indeed it is.
Some time back I witnessed a pastor halt worship in his church when he saw someone start to heal a disabled person right there in the service. That same pastor awhile later spoke to his congregation, saying that they weren’t ready for God to work healing miracles among them! What made that pastor think to thwart God’s purposes? How audacious! Where’s the trust that God is able to handle what He initiates?! Since when does God need man’s approval before He acts?
Maybe some don’t understand the seriousness of the battle between good and evil in this world, and how determined the Devil is to overthrow all that is of God. 2Ti 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. How long will the Church remain passive while the harvest rots beneath clods of dead religion and carelessness? How long will the Church sleep while the world withers like a vine beneath a scorching sun? Who will stand in the gap? asks the Lord, and whom shall I send? Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: Isa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. (May every believer in Christ answer the Lord this way!)
Therefore, I pray that the Lord will send a mighty wind of His Spirit throughout the Church to blow out its dead religious doctrines and works! I pray for the Spirit of God and holy angels to go and break up its clods of control, carelessness, self-seeking, worldliness, love of mammon, and overbearing leadership that’s suffocating its members! I pray that all church leaders who bow to the dictates of Babylon the Great will either fall under the conviction of the Holy Spirit, or be removed from their positions, so that the Church can once again BREATHE in the breath of the Living God! May they be replaced with godly leaders who will allow God to be God and won’t quench God’s Holy Spirit in church assemblies.
Heavenly Father, send forth a loud trumpet blast to arouse your Body from its slumber! Church arise! Awaken from your sleep! The Enemy runs amuck across the land, wreaking havoc, destruction, and spreading wickedness, while the Church sits by on the sideline and watches as though it were watching a show! Church, this is NO SHOW, it’s a SHOWDOWN between God’s Kingdom and the Devil’s kingdom, between the forces of good and evil. Father, call your Church to take up arms and march throughout this land against the kingdom of darkness and as its boots hit the ground may they make such a noise that the earth will shake and the enemy will quake!
Let the sound cause such confusion in the enemy camps that they will run in fear in every direction not knowing which way to go or where to hide! Heavenly Father, cause your army to conquer every foe it finds until NONE are left in the land! Spare not even one who serves Satan and the will of Babylon the Great. Cause every throne of iniquity in this city, state, and country, to be dislodge and replaced with your right rule. Dislodge, dislodge, dislodge – every seat of power and authority which serves Babylon! Dismantle Babylon the Great (the whole system) in our land, brick by brick if need be. Replace wicked leaders in our government with god-fearing ones who will uphold your just decrees and carry out your will throughout this land!
Church of Christ it’s time to ARISE! Arise therefore from your rest slumbering ones, hear the trumpet call and take your place among God’s Church triumphant!

This comes from the Church sitting idly in their seats during services while only the pastor gets to speak, causing members to take a passive view of their faith. That’s NOT how individual members should see their roles, for they’re to be ACTIVE in every aspect of their faith as the Scriptures profusely point out. There’s an element of passivity in the Church today that would make the early followers of Christ (most of whom were Jews in the beginning) tear their clothes. The tearing of one’s clothes is an ancient tradition among the Jews, and it is associated with mourning, grief, and loss. More important than outward shows of grief are true sorrow for sin and genuine repentance of the heart. The prophet Joel relayed God’s command: “Rend your heart and not your garments” (Joel 2:13). https://www.gotquestions.org/tear-clothes-Bible.html
